Played with sticks instead of hands, Timbales (tim-bah-lees) are another Afro-Cuban rhythm instrument.
Product Ref: 4151
They consist of two pitched drums, one high and one low, mounted on a stand.
In Latin music, the Timbales keep the beat that helps the band play together. Sometimes the Timbalero (Timbale player) plays a steady pulse on the shell (side) of the drum and sometimes he or she will keep a steady beat on a cowbell. Once in a while the Timbalero will play a series of rapid notes called a "fill-in" to add excitement and punctuation to the song.
