The Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 Firewire and Thunderbolt Audio Interface is a professional-grade interface featuring a 20x20 configuration with a wide range of digital and analog connectivity. The Saffire Pro 40 provides exceptional audio fidelity thanks to the premium-grade Ad/DA converters and JetPLL jitter reduction technology. The result is pristine audio quality that capture every nuance from your source inputs in immense detail. The jitter reduction technology also ensures reliable synchronisation with external devices. Primarily the Pro 40 Audio Interface functions as a Firewire device but it can also can become fully compatible with Thunderbolt by using a simple FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter for added versatility.
In total, the interface includes eight award-winning preamps, developed by Focusrite for unparalleled preamp performance. These premium-grade preamps ensure the Saffire Pro 40 is one of the best sounding interfaces in its class. Focusrite have over 30 years of expertise in mic pre design, delivering a well sought-after sound that has provided the basis of most Focusrite mic preamps. The preamps themselves were developed by Rupert Neve thirty years ago and stay true to their unique sound to this day. The special 2-stag design combines low noise performance with high gain and exceptional headroom, allowing you to get the most of any microphone.
The JetPLL jitter-reduction technology not only helps to deliver pristine audio quality, but it provides exceptional routing flexibility and rock-solid stability. The Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 includes a wide range of connectivity including two combo mic/line/instruments inputs and dual headphone outputs on the front-panel. The eight main inputs feature combo XLR/TRs connectors and the rear of the unit features eight TRS line outputs for connecting to external equipment such as speakers and more. Additionally, there is a whole host of digital connectivity including ADAT I/O, stereo S/PDIF I/O and two virtual loopback inputs for flexible routing capabilities. Each of the mic preamps includes integrated Phantom power, with the first two channels also including -9dB pads for added headroom.
One of the most unique features of the Saffire Pro 40 Firewire Interface is its accompanying software. Saffire MixControl comes bundled with the interface providing ultra-low-latency 18 x 16 DSP mixer/router software. The software provides access to one-click setup solutions as well as excellent output routing and monitoring. The highly intuitive interface allows you to control everything from sample rates and sync sources to routing and more.
The interface comes bundles with the Xcite+ software bundle, including a wide range of royalty-free loops and samples, as well as a full-fledged soft-synthesizer and Ableton Live Lite 9, to get you started straight away. Also included with the interface is the Focsurite Plug-in Suite that provides a wide range of premium-grade effects including Compressors, Reverbs, Gating and EQ VST/AU plugins. The interface will also adapt and integrate with most digital audio workstations for added versatility.
The road-worthy construction of the Saffire Pro 40 makes it ideal for both live and studio applications. The rack-mountable design only takes up a single unit of space in any professional rack, making it perfect for audio professionals. The front-panel features all the major controls that you would expect including the two main mic/line inputs as well as a five-step LED meter. The concise LED meter allows you to monitor your inputs with precision, with clipping lights to let you know when the signal is too hot. A dedicated stereo monitor mix TRS output features pads for improved audio fidelity when connected to active monitors. The main monitor dial is complete with dim and mute switches, and the customise software allows you to provide set control for stereo and full 7.1 surround sound.
