If you’re looking to invest in an industry standard acoustic guitar, Martin is the best place to start, and the Aged D-28 really is the best of the best. The body is constructed with Madagascar rosewood back and sides which will bring a glorious resonance and warmth to the tone. With a high-grade Adirondack spruce top, unparalleled richness and depth is a guarantee – as well as a clean, crisp clarity that spans from the low-end right through the mid-range and all the way up to those higher notes.
Joined together with a Hide Glue Construction, the body of this guitar is built using a combination of vintage techniques and modern innovation. Looking underneath the exterior, you’ll find a scalloped forward X-bracing which is designed to help push the sound of the strings through the hollow body of the guitar, creating a fantastically resonant sound which will respond to the dynamics of your playing. The 20 fret neck is connected to the body through a Dovetail neck joint and made from genuine mahogany. This – when paired with the ebony fingerboard – will add an earthy brightness to the harmonics, as well as an elite playing feel that will elevate your playing, wherever you take it.
Complete with an ebony bridge and aged faux ivory bridge pins, your tuning will be held with a wonderful resonance that pairs with a low action for pinpoint intonation and comfort. The addition of the tortoise shell pickguard further contributes to the vintage aesthetic that is created by the hardware on this guitar.
With any acoustic guitar, the tone develops over time – as the tonewoods used to build it lose their moisture they become light, and their natural resonance is increased. This process can take decades, and is dependent entirely on the environmental conditions surrounding the guitar, but now, thanks to Martin’s Vintage Tone System – you don’t have to wait. Martin took a trip through time to study some of the classic guitars from their own museum dating back as far as 1919, to understand how they could recreate the look, feel and sound of these old-school classics.
The exact guitar used as a catalyst for this research was the original D-28 from 1937. With all of this research in mind, Martin has now perfected the process of gently distressing the materials used to build its guitars in order to replicate the process of natural ageing. Decades have become weeks thanks to Martin’s VTS, and all their Authentic range guitars are crafted entirely by hand from start to finish, so you will know as soon as you pick this beauty up that it really is – in every sense – the absolute real deal, and it’s been on quite a journey to find you.
The Martin D-28 Authentic truly looks like it belongs leaning quietly against the mantle of a candlelit Georgian mansion, ready to captivate the room upon command. The whole body is finished with an aged vintage gloss, which adds a natural shine that is both subtle and unique. The edges of the body are lined with an antique white binding, beautifully highlighting the aged brown rosewood and spruce body to complete a one-of-a-kind aesthetic, fit for a one-of-a-kind acoustic guitar
