The first add-on for Bitwig Studio, the Spectral Suite provides you with four different modules which separate your audio in unique ways, allowing you to apply independent processing to each part of your sound. A new level for mixing and sound design, the Spectral Suite offers new and exciting ways to manipulate your audio for everything from unhinged and experimental processing to more controlled and precise mixing. The four modules consist of Transient Split, Loudness Split, Harmonic Split and Frequency Split and all enable you to apply independent FX plug-ins or processing to each part of your audio before being mixed together with full control over volume and panning for each part.
Transient Split separates the percussive transient information with the tonal body and sustain of your sound. Ideal when working with drums and bass instruments, Transient Split affords the ability to process the initial spikey transient with the sustain of your instrument. You can do everything from apply heavy compression on the transient of a drum to bring down the attack whilst adding distortion to the tonal component for enhanced sustain. Perfect for tuning drums to your project, you could even apply a pitch shifter to only the tonal part of your drum whilst leaving the transient untouched. For creative application, try applying a reverb or phaser to the tonal part of your drum loop for an evolving and dynamic drum loop without the unwanted harsh attack of the transient being affected.
Loudness Split creates three bands and splits your audio based on the amplitude of each. Loud, Mid and Quiet allow you to apply processing to volume-dependent sections of your sound. Ideal when mixing instruments with lots of dynamic range such as a solo piano or string performance, you can bring up the volume of quiet parts without the unwanted artefacts of a compressor or apply reverb to only the loudest spikes to enhance the sustain of accented notes.
Harmonic Split analyses your audio and provides you with three channels. One channel of odd, one channel of even and one channel of non-harmonic content gives you unparalleled control over your sound design. Isolate the fundamental frequency and apply distance to the rest or distort the even harmonics to create a bell-like comb filter curve that transforms the sound of your instrument into something entirely new. Full panning and volume parameters are included to give your sound additional movement and excitement.
Last but not least is the Frequency Split. Splitting your audio into four frequency bands, this can be thought of as a conventional multi-band compressor or EQ with much more functionality. Independently apply processing to each band before mixing them together with full panning capabilities. Great for adding punch with a compressor to the low end of a synthesizer whilst adding searing distortion on the top end to cut through a mix. Let your mind run free and experiment with applying chorus and delay to each of the frequency bands with different parameters for a truly chaotic and out-of-this-world tone.
Not just designed for experimental and chaotic sound design, Spectral Suite is also very functional, enabling you to take complete control over your processing by offering thresholds for each module. Create clean and controlled mixes by only applying processing when your threshold is surpassed to avoid a constant wall of sound throughout your entire mix.
The best part of all is that Spectral Suite can be implemented into Bitwigs signature modular environment, allowing you to animate and automate virtually every parameter for evolving movement to your sound. Coming included with Outer Spectra, the new Spectral Suite package provides you with 72 presets and 76 clips, showcasing the sonic potential of the new modules in a variety of musical and mix-related contexts.

With every purchase of Bitwig Studio and an active Upgrade Plan, you can join the testing of the newly-launched 4.3. Taking Bitwig to the next level, the 4.3 update offers new modules, effects and system upgrades to level up the most exciting sound design DAW currently available. Aptly named Space & Tone, the 4.3 upgrade brings the newly-designed Convolution, Delay+ and Polymer upgrades. Convolution is designed to take your sound anywhere in the world, or even into realms not yet explored. Convolution is based around a set of over 270 impulses, ranging from 12th-century cathedrals, and legendary recording studio ambience to abstract 'environments'. Each impulse can be manipulated in virtually limitless ways from the colour, tone, envelope or reshaping of the impulse itself. The perfect home for ambient silver-screen sound design, Convolution is ready to take your sounds into outer space.
Balancing familiar, musical controls with a slew of exciting and unpredictable parameters, Delay+ is a boutique effect that can transform your sound into however you see fit. Fine-tuning details to the milliseconds, 4.3 test Delay+ gives you unrivalled delay controls. Set inside the nested structure of Bitwig, Delay+ can integrate existing effects into the feedback loop to create colourful washes of sound that aren't conventionally possible.
Two newly introduced modules can be found within Polymer and The Grid. Inspired by the warmth and depth of analog, Union and Low-ass MG let you design your ideal analog-inspired synth. Union is a combination of three waveshapes into one oscillator with Low-pass MG taking inspiration from classic Moog filters. These new modules can be paired with any existing modules within the Grid and Polymer to build the synth of your dreams from the ground up.
Bitwig Studio 4 introduces advanced comping capabilities, allowing you to take the best parts of multiple takes to create one flawless master take. When recording your performances, each take its given its own colour, ensuring you won’t get lost searching through different takes. Comping works in both the Launcher and Arranger, allowing you to focus on your arrangement. There is also a unique new feature in the form of ‘Fold To Takes’. For example, if you are looking for an eight-bar comp, the entire clip will be spooled into takes lanes so you can begin comping. This is perfect for experimenting and creating interesting new results.
Modulation and customisation has been a big part of Bitwig Studio’s ethos, with the inclusion of powerful Modulators in previous versions. The introduction of ‘Operators’ brings your loops to live by creating new possibilities and timelines by programming or performance control. The Operators are comprised of four modes which can be used simultaneously or on their own. Leave your sequences to ‘Chance’ or create your own custom event timelines for in-depth control.
The newly updated engine provides expression like never before. Keeping with the theme of randomness, Bitwig introduces the ability to randomise note velocities, individual chord panning and advanced pitch modulation. Perfect for creating new ideas and live performances, the powerful editor will visualise any values when the clip starts, updating when the loop cycle begins. Whether you want total control or want to leave it to chance, Bitwig Studio 4 gives you everything you need to achieve the unachievable.
When is a loop not a loop? When it’s an Anti-Loop! With over 100 clips created by expert sound designers, the Anti-Loops sound pack gives you everything you need to experiment with the new Operators and expression controls. These new sequenced sounds can be broken, manipulated, mangled and chopped to create new and exciting ideas. If you need inspiration, Anti-Loops is the perfect place to start.
Thanks to Bitwig Studio 4’s drag and drop feature, maneuvering between projects is made simple. Multiple projects can be kept open simultaneously, allowing you to incorporate tracks from one project into another quickly.
Fades and crossfades can be seen and edited in detail in the arranger timeline. This removes the need to search through drop-down menus to apply a fade. The slopes and curves can be edited by both ear and eye by simply dragging the mouse over the intended edit. Crossfades are automatically created when overlapping audio clips, once again streamlining your workflow.
The pop-up browser makes it easy to navigate through devices, presets and samples. Search functions make auditioning and selecting components easy, ensuring no time is wasted searching endless folders.
The Grid is a modular environment that zooms out on your modular design, allowing you to see and manipulate every little detail. Featuring both FX Grid and Poly Grid Instruments, The Grid allows you to sculpt and shape your own audio effects or modular synth instruments with almost limitless flexibility. Signal flow is indicated simply, ensuring you have full scope to edit, swap and move components to your heart's content. The result of this can be some truly unique sounds.
Simply drag a Grid device into any open project to begin patching over 175 different modules to quickly and easily unlock your creativity. Any of the Bitwig Studio 4 Modulators can be used to control any parameter in The Grid giving you a huge array of dynamic signal manipulation. To create truly unique and awe-inspiring sounds, any device can be patched via stereo to another with common premade connections or interchangeable connections to get you started quickly and easily. A powerful yet potentially daunting program, The Grid has an interactive help screen that describes every parameter and in detail to make sure you are never overwhelmed.

This provides the ultimate control to change parameters and create a controller tailored to your workflow. Touch screen integration also puts every parameter of Bitwig Studio 4 at your fingertips. Complete multi-touch functionality for all of the DAW’s key features significantly speeds up your workflow.
Ablteon LINK has improved the workflow of producers since its introduction allowed cross-DAW integration. This allows projects to be shared between musicians and allows creativity to be at the forefront. Bitwig Studio is a very prominent part of the Ableton LINK network, allowing it to seamlessly become part of your production or performance setup.
The hardware integration offered by Bitwig Studio is a big reason why it's so popular. With Bitwig Studio you get a whole array of devices dedicated to controlling your external hardware, either via MIDI and CC or CV, Gate and Clock, sent directly to your audio outputs.
Avoid the nuisance of crashing projects when loading up plugins. The 'sandboxing' feature in Bitwig Studio 4 ensures plugin crashes won’t derail the whole project. This becomes extremely important when using your DAW in live performances. Your current VST plug-ins will also work without the need for third-party bridging, meaning you can dive straight into your production process with products you know.
