Key Features
The Stam Audio SA-609 - Analog Diode bridge compressor/ Limiter is the 'metal knob' compressor reborn. One of the most famous compressors of all time, the 33609 was prized for its ability to add colour compression, or transparent limiting, depending on the desired effect. Utilising diode-bridge based circuitry, the SA-609 reproduces the original 'Metal Knob' using BA440 cards and Carnhill transformers that accurately obtain the characteristics of the Marinairs used on the initial version. With the same hand-wired transformers and feedback circuit as the legendary Neve 2254, the SA-609 is an ideal compressor for mixing and mastering duties, as well as broadcasting applications.

The Stam Audio SA-609 – Analog Diode bridge compressor/ Limiter offers remarkably transparent compression with its lowest 1.5:1 ratio setting, or can be pushed up to 6:1 to get as much intensity as you desire. The original was often used on drums, vocals, pianos, and other acoustic instruments due to its ability to tame even the most complex sources, and the SA-609 also achieves this impressive feat. Your overall compression is displayed on the front panel with VU meters. Each compression channel has threshold, release, makeup-gain, and ratio controls for excellent adjustments. The makeup-gain circuit is great for adding warmth with a hint of grit, and can be used even if no compression is required giving the SA-609 superior versatility.
Each channel comes ready-equipped with a brick-wall limiter that has threshold and recovery controls, this is placed after the compression circuit. When applied, this is totally transparent allowing you to retain all the transients and nuance of the signal If you need though, the limiter can be bypassed completely for applications where limiting is not necessary. For added flexibility, the SA-609 can be used in linked stereo mode, or the channels can be separated for use as a dual mono compressor- whatever suits the application best. Dual mono mode is ideal for any mix that has differences in dynamics between the right and left channels.
