Designed to be childproof!
Nuvo designed the jHorn with beginners in mind. Thanks to the simple design of the jHorn, it provides an opportunity for children as young as four years old to learn important brass skills. One of the first things that you'll notice about the jHorn is the fact that it's constructed from ABS resin. Not only does this enable the jHorn to be super durable, but it also keeps it lightweight. Weighing in at only 0.7kg, playing a brass instrument has never been so accessible.
Unlike traditional brass instruments, the jHorn doesn't use piston valves. Instead, the jHorn uses patented rotary face-valves! These valves feel the same and use the same fingering as piston valves, but need very little maintenance. An occasional wash down with warm soapy water is all that is required to keep your jHorn in working order.
Transferable skills
Nuvo understand that when you're learning a brass instrument, it can take time to find the mouthpiece you're most comfortable with. This is why Nuvo includes their multi-cup mouthpiece which enables you to experiment with different embouchure sizes. You can even try using a standard trumpet, tenor horn, or small-bore trombone metal mouthpiece if preferred!
Similar to most traditional brass instruments, the jHorn is tuned to Bb and plays in the same register as the tenor trombone, euphonium, and baritone horn. But if prefered, you can tune the jHorn into concert pitch by using the included C-tubes. This means that it can easily blend into Elementary/Junior school music programs such as WindStars. The WindStars program is a pre-band class curriculum that incorporates the jHorn along with the jSax, jFlute, and Clarinéo. You can visit the WindStars website for more exciting information.
